So be prepared to be stunned by her passionate debut, in which she infuses tales of dark desire with her accomplished classical guitar playing and a voice that richochets between yearning whispers and impassioned howls. Fusing a complex cluster of disparate influences with a deft touch, Calvi owes as much to Django Reinhardt and Maria Callas as she does to PJ Harvey, and may well have produced one of the most gloriously intoxicating albums of 2011.
