Knee-sock deep in seventies-influenced glam rock and sixties-style easy listening, the eighth studio album from the ever lovely Belle and Sebastian picks up where 2006’s The Life Pursuit left off. The slow burning, dreaminess of opener ‘I Didn’t See It Coming’ is as strong as anything from If You’re Feeling Sinister and vindicates Murdoch and co’s reputation as Glasgow’s foremost purveyors of indie-pop. Twee may be a dirty word but, with eleven infectious tracks guaranteed to make you either swoon or skip, Write About Love just shows that it’s the quiet ones you have to watch.
