Though New Zealand-born and UK-based, we’re pretty sure Connan Mockasin’s mind inhabits an entirely different planet. Don’t believe us? Check out his psychotropic music videos, which feature him alternately covered in paint, wearing halved-lemons as shades and chasing dolphin-women through forests. As curious sonically as he is visually, his debut album-proper is a bewitching exploration of experimental indie. ‘It’s Choade My Dear’, in particular, sounds like it was recorded on the sea bed, blending fluid guitar sounds with languid brass, and washed over by Mockasin’s high-pitched, child-like vocals. In essence, the simply wonderful Forever Dolphin Love must be heard to be believed and even then you’ll be left wondering “What does it all mean…?”
