Last year’s X Factor champion, Joe McElderry, didn’t get off to the most auspicious of starts. Beaten to the Christmas number one spot by Rage Against The Machine, he’s only now releasing his debut album, perhaps a little late in the day considering auditions are already well underway for his replacement. Still, he’s not one to let that get him down with Wide Awake eschewing ballads for an upbeat, disco vibe, particularly on Scissors Sisters-esque ‘Real Late Starter’ and Alphabeat-aping ‘Feel The Fire’. Plus, if he gets bored of life as a solo artist he can put that impressive falsetto to good use in ‘Saturday Night Fever: The Musical’.
