Twelve months on, the Long Island quintet’s debut long-player’s receiving a unanimously rapt response, sending critics performing cerebral somersaults as they attempt to define their sound. It’s a thankless pursuit, because a large part of In Heaven’s charm is that it defies pigeonholing, obfuscating and delighting by combining influences as diverse as Stereolab and Grandmaster Flash, and emerging sounding like nobody else.
