Despite having already dropped two albums, it was last year’s Kush and Orange Juice mixtape that propelled Wiz Khalifa from one of the best-kept secrets in Pittsburgh to the most tweeted-about rapper in the world. Since then he’s been crowned MTV’s Hottest Breakthrough Hip Hop Artist of 2010 and topped the Billboard Hot 100 with ‘Black and Yellow’, so it’s no surprise his full-length, major label debut is as hotly-anticipated by the mainstream as it is die-hard hip hop fans. Rolling Papers will please both, seeing him rolling with the big boys, including Eminem/TI producer Jim Jonsin and Norwegian hit factory Stargate, and dispatching his rhymes with nonchalant ease. And as in Arabic “Khalifa” means “successor”, Dre and Snoop ought to watch their backs.
