After the acrimonious 1996 break-up of Madchester "baggy" fixtures the Stone Roses, lead singer Ian Brown took the logical next step an embarked on a solo career. While his 1998 debut, UNFINISHED MONKEY BUSINESS, has a certain lo-fi bedroom charm, subsequent releases saw a return to the soul- and club-infused take on British indie-rock that came to represent the Roses at their finest. Brown released his first greatest-hits collection in 2005.
