Hard rock was usually considered a testosterone-heavy genre--until Jane's Addiction. With his unorthodox image and vocal delivery, singer Perry Farrell broke all preconceived notions of hard rock, as the band combined Led Zeppelin's grandeur with the Cure's ethereal nature. Dressed in a crazy quilt of goth-punk fashions, the L.A.-based group achieved success with their first studio album, NOTHING'S SHOCKING. As icons of the growing alternative rock scene of the early 1990s, Jane's Addiction made their biggest mark by kicking off the first Lollapalooza tour. The group subsequently disbanded, but they have reformed in various incarnations since that time, most notably on the 2003 studio album, STRAYS.
