Lumiere’s Éilís Kennedy and Pauline Scanlon have much in common. Hailing from the same town and sharing a love of folk, the pair harmonise beautifully on their eponymous debut. Lumiere is produced by John Reynolds, who has worked with a host of Irish musical talent including Damien Dempsey, who collaborates with the duo on the track ‘The West’s Awake’. Though the album mixes English and Gaelic songs, one thing stays constant: Kennedy and Scanlon’s luminous voices.

With a career spanning more than twenty years, a Kila retrospective is long overdue. At a generous 25 tracks, the album takes in all their finest moments, from the sprightly ‘Bully’s Acre’ and ‘Cardinal Knowledge’ to more wistful numbers like ‘Cé Tú Féin’. As The Best Of Kila mingles instrumental and vocal tracks together, as well as sounds from across the globe, this collection truly has something for everyone.
