7digital What we said: It’s been four years since Beirut last brought their take on Balkan folk to our ears and – contrary to its negative-sounding title – No No No is a joyful return. The band continues to exist within their own bubble, blissfully ignorant of the tropes of “modern” music. However, there is a shift in their sound as the trademark brass takes a lesser role, giving greater prominence to the piano and its warmer sister the Rhodes. The result is their most consistently jaunty release to date, and at its peak songs such as ‘Gibraltar’ or ‘August Holland’ marry this new direction with Zach Condon’s swooping vocals to great effect.
