Play It Again Sam
7digital What we said: Thanks to the two Mercury Prize nominations under his belt, the return of London's Obaro "Ghostpoet" Ejimiwe is a much anticipated event. His last album, 2015’s Shedding Skin, saw Ejimiwe bring in floaty guitar rock stylings to his broody blend of atmospheric electronic sounds, and here on Dark Days + Canapés we find him continuing in that vein. His gruff sprechgesang vocals and the dark ambience that pervades his sound is accentuated by the subject matter: ‘Immigrant Boogie’ - the tale of someone crossing borders in search of a better life - is especially harrowing. Once again, in his own, very distinctive way, Ghostpoet has created a salient record.
