7digital What we said: The story behind Hun Choi's debut album is colourful. Recorded in a studio he spontaneously painted pink one night with Amsterdam-local San Proper, the record was in the works for three years before completion. After relocating twice; once from Berlin to LA, then back to Europe to settle down in Amsterdam, the finished record presents the work of a musician who is well-versed in the contrasting musical scenes of today. There is a triumphant atmosphere in the ascending synths and lush vocal snippets of ‘Rare Happiness’, while traces of Choi’s 14-year stint in Berlin are prominent on the big-room kick drum of ‘Hiding the Moon’. With glimmers of his disco and acid influences, this is a cinematic, intricately woven snapshot of Choi’s journey as a musician.
