It’s hardly surprising, then, that a band whose debut featured a whopping 3000 samples, decided to take a 16-year break. Reportedly recording over 100 different versions of Wildflower’s MF Doom and Danny Brown-starring lead single, The Avalanches’ relentless perfectionism hasn’t dwindled in the interim, and neither has their charisma, as evidenced in a set that’s as crammed full of summery euphoria as it is vintage soundbites. Combine that with guest turns from Father John Misty, Toro Y Moi and many more, and it’s clear the Melbourne trio have pulled out all the stops to make our decade-and-a-half-long wait worthwhile.
