7digital What we said: A debut EP is a little-heralded affair for most artists; a chance to develop in relative obscurity. Not so for The Japanese House (aka Amber Bain), whose first four-track release was selected as Zane Lowe’s “Hottest Record in the World”. No pressure for the follow up, then. Happily, Clean delivers on the hype. Produced by George Daniel and Matty Healy of The 1975, their influence is clear in the glossy sheen coating the songs. Yet it’s the more idiosyncratic elements of Bain’s craft – such as the clever use of vocoder, or the subtle funk guitar lines that elevate dreamy ballads – which ensure that her debut album will be one to watch out for in 2016.
