BRIT Awards 2018
See the nominees
The UK’s glitziest music awards are back and, as ever, the nominations have got pop fans talking. Dua Lipa leads the pack with an unprecedented five nominations, making her the first female artist to be nominated for five awards in a single year. Ed Sheeran is hot on her heels with four nods, while Sam Smith has been overlooked entirely, much to his fans' surprise. Ahead of the ceremony, which takes place at London’s O2 arena on February 21st, check out all the chosen ones below.
Featuring four debuts, 2018’s British album category pits one of Britain’s most successful musical exports, Ed Sheeran, against last year’s British Breakthrough Winner, Rag'n'Bone Man, and 2017’s big break-out stars Stormzy, Dua Lipa and J Hus. It’d be a thrill to see the latter win for his superb LP, Common Sense.
With this year’s nod for Utopia, Björk has officially been nominated for the International Female BRIT off the back of every single studio album she’s released. Elsewhere Lorde looks a strong contender following her second album, Melodrama, while Taylor Swift is surely in with a strong shout for Reputation.
Beating the pop R&B of Neneh Cherry’s daughter, Mabel McVey, and dancehall-loving rapper Stefflon Don, Jorja Smith picks up the mantle from Rag'n'Bone Man as the recipient of this year’s Critics’ Choice award. Her soulful tones have picked up comparisons to Amy Winehouse, and songs like ‘Let Me Down’ suggest she has as much potential.
